Fourth of July Celebration

Theme: Our Western Heritage – Homegrown Heroes

Since 1927, the Fourth of July in Steamboat Springs has celebrated more than national pride – it’s an annual opportunity for the Yampa Valley community to honor our Western heritage.  

The day is celebrated with fun for all. Events like the largest Pro Rodeo event of the summer and a hometown parade are deep-rooted Independence Day traditions we’re excited to bring back again this year.

Cowboys' Roundup Days

Cowboys’ Roundup Days is celebrating again in true western fashion! The event will include a weekend full of family-friendly activities as well as the Pro Rodeo Series with four consecutive rodeos on July 3 - 6. 

Fireworks and Preventing Wildfires

Steamboat Springs will not offer a firework display as part of its Independence Day Celebration. Our community places a high value on wildfire prevention, and we thank visitors and residents in advance for not using fireworks in Steamboat Springs this Fourth of July.  Learn more about preventing wildfires.

Hometown Parade

July 4 | 10 AM | Lincoln Ave. between 6th and 10th St.

This year’s parade, led by grand marshals Donny and Jackie Hayes, will include 40+ floats registered by local businesses and organizations. Please review the following information to be prepared for this fun event!  

Parking & Transportation

Multiple city streets from 12th to 5th St. will be closed from 6 AM to 2 PM on July 4, so please plan accordingly. The traffic plan will divert eastbound traffic to Yampa St. and westbound traffic to Oak St. Parking will be extremely limited downtown; we recommend carpooling and parking at the Rodeo Grounds, Howelsen Hill, Steamboat Springs High School, or the Stockbridge Transit Center (see bus schedules here). The police department will be ticketing for failure to follow special event parking.

Expect traffic delays due to street closures and the alternate traffic route. The traffic detour is in place for the safety of our community so we can continue to provide a family-friendly atmosphere and prevent harm to parade attendees. We appreciate your understanding!

Parade Registration

Steamboat Springs community groups are strongly encouraged to join forces to create a float. Judging will occur in front of the judge’s stage on the corner of 8th & Lincoln Ave. Performances will be judged on originality, creativity, and spirit in the following categories:

  • Best Theme
  • Best Group
  • Best Commercial
  • Best Parade Theme

 

Pricing:

Community Group & Non-Profit: $125
For Profit Business & Political Party: $275

PARADE PARTICIPATION

At check-in, we will provide a laminated number to add to your float and direct you to your staging placement. Judging will occur on the judge’s stage on the corner of 8th and Lincoln Ave. Performances will be judged on originality, creativity, and spirit. Performances are limited to 1 minute. 

After the parade, all floats will exit onto 6th Street towards the rodeo grounds.

Floats

Float check-in starts at 7:45AM on July 4. To keep traffic running smoothly, all floats must be checked in by 8:45 AM. Float staging will take place between 10th and 12th St. on Lincoln Ave., as well as in the 10th St. parking lot behind Steamboat Meat & Seafood. 

No Distribution Policy: Floats are not allowed to pass anything out to spectators including water, candy, and any other promotional goods. No exceptions. This requirement complies with insurance requirements for parades that include livestock and aligns with sustainability practices that reduce single-use plastics and waste.
